GroupsGroups
Group psychotherapy is a pre-determined curriculum or common group topic that is the focus of group learning. Trust among members is encouraged and maintained by their commitment to protecting the information that is shared throughout the group process. These sessions are more than a workshop or a class, group psychotherapy is often recommended for people who need exposure and practice for their social skills, social anxiety, or to build social support among others who share a common concern, challenge, or identity.
Grief and Loss GroupGrief and Loss Group
In response to the pervasive experience of grief over the past four years since the pandemic, Dr. Shum and volunteers provided grief support groups. Originally financially supported by a mini grant from Healthy RC, Eric and Rose Martin, with Dr. Emily Shum developed a grief group curriculum based on The Grief Recovery Handbook by James and Friedman. Dr. Shum does not currently host groups at her offices, but she continues to consult with community members and friends local and internationally. Grief groups recently started in a village of West Kenya after a tragic car accident took the lives of family and friends. Locally, grief groups are being developed and one is launching soon.
