ServicesServices
Currently, we offer psychological services that include: individual, couples, group and family therapy. Dr. Shum completes psychological evaluations on a limited basis.

Individual
Individual psychotherapy is a one-on-one relationship between you and your therapist.
Individual psychotherapy is a one-on-one relationship between you and your therapist or psychologist. Trust is maintained through the confidentiality agreement. Common factors of effective therapists include unconditional positive regard (non-judgmental stance), empathy, belief in their theoretical orientation (chosen change process), and usually includes therapeutic homework. Dr. Shum often says that therapy happens outside of the four walls of the therapy office; change happens when you apply what you’re learning into your life.

Family
Family psychotherapy can include couples therapy as well as family therapy.
Family psychotherapy can include couples therapy as well as family therapy. Couples therapy is with two committed partners who are working toward relational goals. Couples therapy often is an adjunct to each individual pursuing psychotherapy with their own therapist. Family psychotherapy typically involves parents and children from a common family unit. This may also include relative caregivers who are involved in raising the children, or this may be a process of co-parenting between blended families. There are a number of reasons and goals that bring people to family psychotherapy.

Group
Group psychotherapy is a pre-determined curriculum or common group topic that is the focus of group learning.
Group psychotherapy is a pre-determined curriculum or common group topic that is the focus of group learning. Trust among members is encouraged and maintained by their commitment to protecting the information that is shared throughout the group process
